
Martni, Thomas named team MVPs

Martin, a sophomore from Conroe, and Thomas, a sophomore from Allentown, Penn., paired to lead the women's basketball team to its first winning season since 1996 and the Southland West Division championship. The pair were named both to the All-Conference team and the Academic All-Southland honor squad.
Both were the top two scorers and rebounders for the squad. Martin ranked third in the Southland in scoring, sixth in assists and ninth in steals. Thomas set a school record with seven consecutive double-doubles and ranked second in the league in rebounds, fourth in blocks and eighth in scoring.
Martin and Thomas were among 14 athletes recognized as "Most Valuable" for the 2010-11 at the banquet.
The Most Valuable awards for 2010-11 by sport were Jenny Pence (soccer), Alyssa Dooley (women's cross country), Patrick Krol (men's cross country), Kaylee Hawkins and Carli Kolbe (volleyball), Tim Flanders (football), Morgan Davis (women's indoor track and field), Matt Johnson (men's indoor track and field), Britni Martin and Sequeena Thomas (women's basketball), Gilberto Clavell (men's basketball), Dayna Galganski (bowling), Nadia Dubyanskaya (tennis) and Hailey Wiginton (softball).
