Andreas, a senior from Brenham who has been the Bearkats' designated hitter the past two seasons, produced a 3.42 overall grade point average as a kinesiology major. Andreas earned first team All-Southland Conference honors this year and was a post-season all-tournament selection.
Andreas was Sam Houston's top hitter with a .332 average and also led the squad in doubles (18), triples (2), home runs (12), RBIs (54), total bases (132), slugging (.592) and on-base percentage (.427). He is one of only two players in Sam Houston history to hit a pair of grand slam home runs in one season.
Kimbrel, a senior right-handed pitcher from Cameron, posted a 3.89 overall grade point average as a biology major. Kimbrel was a Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District second team selection and earned honorable mention All-Southland honors.
The regular Friday night starter for the Bearkats with five of his seven wins coming over Southland foes, Kimbrel led the 2011 Sam Houston team in innings pitched (102) and total victories and ranked second on the squad in strike outs (74).
Mooney, a senior second baseman from The Woodlands, is one of nine members of the 2011 Academic All-Southland squad to earn the honor for a second consecutive season. Mooney was a Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District second team selection and earned second team All-Southland Conference honors. He was the second-leading hitter for the Bearkats, starting every game during the 2011 season.
Mooney earned Southland "Hitter of the Week" recognition after leading the Kats to a three-game sweep of first place SFA in April. He led the team in total hits (81) and stolen bases (28). He stands as one of only 10 Bearkats in school history to produce more than 200 career hits.
The Academic All-Southland Conference teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance administrators from each Southland university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for the all-academic squad.
