Lightning postpones scrimmage

No matter how well plans might be made, Mother Nature always seems to find a way to win.
The Bearkats looked forward to holding their third intrasquad Thursday night, but with lightning in the area and heavy thunderstorms on the horizon, coaches were forced to alter their schedule.
Even though there wasn't a drop of rain, the threat of severe weather was enough to postpone Thursday's scrimmage until Sunday night at 7:30.
The only thing the Kats could do was that punters and kickers were able to warm up, practice field goals and boot a few punts.
"We'll just push it to Sunday night," said Sam Houston State head football coach Willie Fritz following the team's meeting. "Sunday was just supposed to be a walk-through for us anyways, so we'll go Sunday evening."
With intense workouts over the past few weeks, postponing the scrimmage a few days will allow the Bearkats, who will resume practice this morning, get healthy, Fritz said.
"I think it'll help us with our scrimmage," the coach said. "We're a little beat up. We'll have a day off on Saturday and most of Sunday and come right back and get after it Sunday evening.
"I think it'll end up being a blessing for us. We weren't going to practice Sunday night, so we're just switching Thursday for Sunday. We've been going at it pretty hard, so we need to heal up. It'll be a good deal for us."
Over the past few days, Fritz also added that the Bearkats have made positive strides from their previous scrimmage Monday night.
"I thought we had an excellent practice two evenings ago," Fritz said. "We really had a lot of spunk. The guys did a good job with some kicking game drills that we did. I've seen a lot of good stuff out of us."
