Black earns league defensive honor

Black led the Bearkat defensive with 15 total blocks to help Sam Houston State jump out to a 3-0 start in conference play with wins over defending regular-season champion Central Arkansas and Northwestern State.
The Huntsville High School product posted a season-high 11 blocks in the five-set come-from-behind win over Central Arkansas. Black, a senior middle blocker, also added five digs on the week.
For the 2011 season, Black stands as the Bearkats' leading scorer with 181 points including 126 kills and 72 total blocks. Her performance has helped lead Sam Houston to a 9-7 overall season mark.
With the blocks the senior chalked up this past weekend, Black became only the ninth Bearkat to total more than 300 career blocks. Black now owns a four-year total of 304 total blocks.
Sam Houston's three conference victories place the Bearkats atop the league standings. The Bearkats take their act on the road this weekend as they play Thursday at UTSA and Saturday afternoon at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
