Jeff Conway, assistant head coach and wide receivers coach for the Bearkats the past two years, has accepted the running back coaching position at Texas State University-San Marcos.
Conway was part of head coach Willie Fritz's offensive staff that directed the Bearkats to a 20-6 record the past two seasons, the best two-year won-loss mark in school history.
The 2011 Sam Houston football team won the Southland Conference championship with a perfect 7-0 record, ran off a 16-game winning streak (the longest in school history) and advanced to the NCAA Division I Football Championship game for the first time ever.
"Jeff did just a fantastic job for us," Fritz said. "He is a quality, quality coach and man. He did so many things for us besides coaching."
Conway came to Sam Houston State with Fritz from Central Missouri were he served as associate head coach and wide receivers coach as the Mules rolled up a 41-24 record.
"I've been with Jeff for a long time, so it's difficult for me, not only losing a coach but not being around a friend every day."
