Preseason All-Southland Women's Basketball

Sam Houston senior forwards Britni Martin and Sequeena Thomas both have been named as first team selections on the 10-player preseason All-Southland Conference women's basketball squads.
The preseason all-league team is voted upon by the league's head coaches.
Seven universities are represented on the two preseason teams, led by two selections from McNeese State, Nicholls State and Sam Houston State.
Martin, a junior from Conroe, Texas, help the Bearkats post a 12-4 conference record, the most in Sam Houston history, and earn its second consecutive West Division Title last season. The Bearkats also earned berth to the Women's Basketball Invitational, marking the first post season appearance in school history.
Martin led the league in most 3-pointers made per game (2.9) and second in the conference in scoring (17.4). Martin also ranked in the top five in the conference in other categories, including third in free throw percentage (.827), fourth in 3-point percentage (.387), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5) and minutes averaged (35.1) and fifth in assists per game (4.0).
Thomas also earned second team all-conference honors last season. A native of Allentown, Pa., she led the conference and ranked second nationally in rebounding with 12.6 rebounds per game. Thomas was second in the conference last season in blocks (2.0) and ninth in scoring (14.8) while ranking eighth in the NCAA in double-doubles on the season with 18.
The Sam Houston women's basketball team will play host to Southwestern University of Georgetown in a preseason exhibition game Sunday, Nov. 4.
On Friday Nov. 9, the Bearkats begin competition in the preseason Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT), traveling to the Northeast to face nationally ranked Delaware. Sam Houston's first regular season home game will be Friday Nov. 30 with the "Pack The House" contest against A&M-Commerce.
