Volleyball Hosts Nicholls Colonels

Looking to continue the longest current winning streak in Southland Conference volleyball, Sam Houston State plays host to Nicholls Saturday at 10 a.m.
The Bearkats bring a 12-2 league record into the tilt. SHSU holds first place in the race by a half game over 12-3 Central Arkansas.
Nicholls State is battling for one of the final spots in the Southland Conference post-season tournament. Eight teams make the event and the Colonels and Southeastern Louisiana are tied for seventh place, each with 5-11 SLC marks.
Deveney Wells-Gibson and Kendall Cleveland lead the Bearkat offense. The pair rank first and third in Southland Conference statistics with kill averages of 4.26 and 3.60 per set, respectively.
Setter Tayler Gray of Sam Houston ranks second in the Southland in assists with 11.1 per set. Middle blocker Kim Black heads the blocks category in the league with a total of 70 (eight solo, 62 assists).
Libero Camille Alfaro and Gray stand eighth and 10th in digs with set averages of 3.79 and 3.52, respectively.
Black is second in the league in service aces with 23 in conference play.
Following Saturday's match, Sam Houston has three contests remaining. The Bearkats will travel to third place Northwestern State (10-4) for an important match Tuesday night.
The Kats will end the regular season with home contests at Johnson Coliseum on Thursday, Nov. 8 against McNeese State and Saturday, Nov. 10 with Lamar.
