Saturday, first place Central Arkansas (5-1) plays host to fourth place Northwestern State (2-2) in Conway while second place Sam Houston (4-1) welcomes third place Southeastern Louisiana (3-1) to Huntsville.
A UCA victory over the Demons Saturday night clinches at least a tie for the championship for the Bears. Sam Houston State can hoist the Southland trophy for the second consecutive season with wins over the Lions this week and next Saturday at Northwestern State.
Southeastern Louisiana is led by quarterback Nathan Stanley who has thrown for 1,546 yards and seven touchdowns this season. His top targets are Stanley Moore and Tony McCrea.
Saturday is "Senior Day" for the Sam Houston football team as 21 senior members of the 2012 team play their final regular season home game at Bowers Stadium
Thirteen of the 21 seniors are four-year lettermen who have been part of 35 Bearkat football victories during their careers. Nineteen of these seniors were members of last year's 14-1 Southland Conference championship and NCAA Division I national finalist team.
Seniors include kicker Miguel Antonio; punter Matt Foster; wide receivers Trey Diller, Melvis Pride and Terrance Robinson; running back Vincent Dotson; tight ends T. J. Jones, J. D. Standley and K. J. Williams; defensive backs Kenneth Jenkins, Mike Littleton, Robert Shaw, Dax Swanson; linebackers Darnell and Darius Taylor; offensive linemen Scott Gonzalez, Kaleb Hopson, Dan Jenkins, Chris Rogers and Riley Smith and defensive lineman J. T. Cleveland.
Saturday also is the annual "Pink Out" day at Bowers Stadium with special ceremonies seeking to raise awareness of breast cancer prevention.
The Villas On Sycamore, presenting sponsor for the Nov. 3 showdown with the Southeastern Louisiana Lions, will give one Sam Houston student the opportunity to kick for up to $225 or an iPad Saturday.
Villas on Sycamore, located at 1615 Sycamore Ave. adjacent to the SHSU campus, will select two students through at drawing at the Villa on Sycamore tailgate spot at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, 30 minutes prior to the contest's 2 p.m. kickoff.
The student chosen for the "Kick for Cash" contest will have 30 seconds to kick field goals from 15 yards, 25 yards, and 35 yards to win a $50, $75, and $100 gift card respectively.
Saturday will conclude with a special team autograph session following the final gun.
