College Station -Shelby Tucker and Ashley Isbell accounted for all of Sam Houston's scoring with home runs as the Bearkats fell 7-4 to Texas A&M in a non-conference road softball game Wednesday.
Tucker, the Bearkats shortstop, put the visitors up 1-0 with a lead-off home run to left field to open the third inning.
The Aggies struck back with seven runs in the bottom of the third as Mel Dumezcik blasted a grand slam homer and Brittany Walker brought in a pair of runs with single.
Ashley Isbell started an SHSU rally in the top of the seventh inning with a two-out, three-run homer to right field.
Sam Houston also got hits from Alyssa Coggins and Hilary Adams.
Tomi Garrison was the losing pitcher for Sam Houston, throwing two-and-two thirds innings, giving up five hits and striking out three batters. Shelby Lancaster finished the contest in the circle, permitting the Aggies only one hit and striking out one in three-and-a-third innings of work.
Lindsey Sisk was the game-winner in the circle, allowing the Kats only three hits in six-and-a-third innings. Lauren Ainsley completed the game.
Sam Houston State now heads to its second pre-conference tournament of the season as the Bearkats played in the North Texas Mean Green Classic Friday through Sunday in Denton.
