Indoor championships in Norman

The SHSU track and field teams will begin competition today in the Southland Conference Indoor Championships in Norman Oklahoma.
The Kats were in Norman just last week, which the team hopes will help them perform at their best.
“What we told the kids last week is that this is pretty much a dry run for the conference meet,” said head coach Dave Self.
Twenty-three athletes will compete for the Bearkat women and they rank in the top eight in fourteen events.
Senior Jenny Zoch enters the competition ranked at the top of the women's shot put (47-9.75) and seventh in the weight throw (52-11). Junior Shelby Zotika also enters the competition as the top female athlete in the pole vault with a vault of 15-7.5 last week in Norman.
Junior Sabrina Starr (8.51) and Sunday Foster (25.06) enter the meet ranked second in 60 meter hurdles and 200 meter dash. Seventeen athletes will compete for the Bearkat men and they rank in the top eight in ten events.
Sophomore Charles White comes into the meet ranked third in the triple jump (49-2.25) and eighth in long jump (23-6). Sophomore Matthew Viverettte will run the 60 meter hurdles meet ranked at second in the conference with a time of 8.0 seconds.
Preston Sanders enters the competition ranked in second (56-8.5) after only one meet of competition this season.
In conference competition, athletes that finish in the top eight in their event score points for their team.
A first place finish earns ten points, eight points for second, six for third, five for fourth, four for fifth, three for sixth, two for seventh and one for eighth.
The men's and women's team with the most points at the end of the meet will win the championship.
