Kats post strong performance at Michael Johnson Invitational

WACO — The Sam Houston outdoor track and field team delivered a strong showing at the Michael Johnson Invitational hosted by Baylor at the Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium.
The Bearkats turned in multiple podium finishes and national marks across both track and field events, highlighted by a first-place finish from Demario Prince in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.56 seconds. Werner Bezuidenhout added a sixth-place finish in the same event, clocking a personal record 13.83 to rank 48th nationally.
On the women's side, the 4x100 relay team of Tiriah Kelley, Hannah Lowe, Jada Edwards and Royaltee Brown placed second with a program-record time of 43.39 seconds, moving to 12th nationally. The men's 4x100 relay squad also secured a podium finish, taking third with a season-best 39.59 seconds, good for 34th in the nation.
Jada Edwards continued her standout meet with a first-place finish in the women's 400 meters, running a personal-best 54.46 seconds. Teammates Aaryona Kinchen and Cymia Yourish added depth in the event with top-five finishes, while Yourish posted a season best. On the men's side, Aren Spencer led a strong group with a personal-best 45.79 seconds to rank 33rd nationally, while Malik Franklin also posted a PR of 46.00.
Sam Houston's sprint group impressed in the 100 meters, with Janae De Gannes (11.18) and Success Oyibu (11.19) both recording personal bests and national top-25 marks. Royaltee Brown (11.30) and Hannah Lowe (11.38) also finished among the top competitors. On the men's side, Laurenz Colbert led the way with a season-best 10.24, followed by Bailey Hashmi's personal-best 10.30.
In the field events, Jenna Flynn highlighted the Bearkats' performance with a second-place finish in the women's javelin at 44.06 meters, while Ellie Fooshee added a seventh-place mark.
The Bearkats also saw solid performances in the middle-distance events, led by Aaliyah Miller's 2:05.11 in the women's 800 meters and Amon Malakwen's season-best 1:48.83 in the men's race.
Sam Houston capped the meet with strong showings in the 4x400 relays, as the women's squad posted a season-best 3:32.58, while the men's A team clocked a 3:05.74.
The Bearkats will return to action next weekend in College Station as they compete in the Alumni Muster at E.B. Cushing Stadium.
