
Kats shine at 44 Farms

COLLEGE STATION – The Sam Houston Bearkats outdoor track and field team turned in an impressive performance at the 44 Farms Team Invitational at E.B. Cushing Stadium, highlighted by multiple event titles, personal bests, and podium finishes.
The Bearkats were led by standout performances in the distance events, as Ellie Galan captured first place in the 1500 meters with a personal-best time of 4:33.18. Sophia Phillip followed with a third-place finish and personal best of 4:37.69, while Ami Clark added a season-best mark. In the men's 1500 meters, Anthony Perez also turned in a strong showing, placing third with a personal-best time of 3:59.39.
In the 800 meters, Caleb Anthony claimed first in the invitational section with a time of 1:52.55, while Jabari Mitchell placed third overall with a personal-best 1:52.08. Brooke Cerny led the women's 800 meters with a season-best 2:19.91, followed by Lauren Johansson and Maddie Watson, who recorded a personal best.
Sprint performances were highlighted by Xzamion Parker, who placed third in the 100 meters with a time of 10.22, while Omarion Ferguson added a seventh-place finish. On the women's side, Anivea Gilbert (12.26) and Taniah Coleman (12.38) led the way in the 100 meters. In the 200 meters, Tyriq Brunn posted a time of 21.15, while Amaya Kennison-Jenkins led the women with a 24.50 finish.
The Bearkats also saw success in relay action, as the men's 4x100 meter relay team earned a second-place finish with a season-best time of 39.31.
In the field events, Parker Brown recorded a personal-best mark of 5.02 meters to place third in the pole vault, while Dylan Truss and Nathan Williams also competed. Nia Thompson led the women in the long jump with a sixth-place finish (5.88m), and Jatoryia Barnes added an eighth-place mark in the triple jump.
Throwers continued to produce strong results, with Nikos Fotinopoulos placing fourth in the hammer throw (59.26m) and Mateo Ortiz recording a 16.46-meter mark in the shot put. Kapualani Magnani led the women's hammer throw group with a 10th-place finish, while Alauna Richardson competed in the discus.
On the distance side, Mario Ruiz delivered a runner-up finish in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:43.61, while Kelvin Sarfo added a 12th-place finish. Alicia Galvez secured another podium finish for the Bearkats, placing third in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
The Bearkats also posted solid efforts in the hurdles and 400-meter events, with Will Smith leading the men in the 110-meter hurdles and Makensi Greenwood recording a season-best time in the 400-meter hurdles. Jayden Piper paced the women in the 400 meters with a time of 55.54.
Sam Houston will look to continue building momentum at the Tom Tellez Alumni Invitational, set for April 18 at the Carl Lewis International Complex in Houston.
