Bearkats to host WBI second round

Just 24 hours after winning their first postseason game in school history, the Sam Houston State women have earned a second home game.
Northern Iowa knocked off SFA on Thursday night to advance to the quarterfinals of the Women's Basketball Invitational to face the Bearkats. The game will be played Saturday at 2 p.m. at Johnson Coliseum.
“This is such a great deal for us and we are so excited to be playing at home,” head coach Brenda Nichols said. “I thought our home fans were great against Rice and we want to see that again.”
The Panthers will come to Huntsville with a record of 17-14, including a 9-9 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference, and are also coming off their first postseason win in school history. They defeated SFA on Thursday night 83-67.
“I'm looking forward to this because it is a team we have never played before,” said junior Britni Martin who led the Kats with 22 points against Rice on Wednesday night. “We see SFA twice each year and we scrimmage Rice every year, so I think this will be fun. Also, I'm looking forward to another game at home.”
The Bearkats are 12-1 at Johnson Coliseum this season, while Northern Iowa is 5-9 on the road.
Tickets are priced at $10 each are on sale online at www.gobearkats.com/tickets. Students, faculty and staff will get into the game for free.
The game will also be streamed live on the Bearkat Sports Network for free.
