Seven teams already have clinched berths in the event which begins Wednesday March 8 at the Merrell Center in Katy. Sam Houston State and Texas State are fighting for the remaining berth Saturday.
Nicholls clinched its berth Wednesday despite losing big to Northwestern State due to Texas State's loss to Lamar.
Due to a head-to-head win over Nicholls, if Sam Houston wins Saturday, the Bearkats will be the number seven seed. The Bearkats are playing for the seventh seed and the Bobcats are playing for the eighth seed, but both squads are playing for their season.
"You don't like to have someone else do your job for you," SHSU head coach Jason Hooten said. "We've got to go down and win a game at Texas State. It's senior night and all that stuff and I expect that they will play really well, especially after getting beat at home by Lamar, who is playing really well right now.
"It's all or nothing, you know. Is it where we want to be? No, but there is probably three other teams in our league that wishes they were where we're going to be at."
Tipoff Saturday at San Marcos is 4 p.m. The live play-by-play action will be broadcast by KSAM 101.7 FM.
