Huntsville -- No. 27 Baylor took advantage of 11 walks and one hit batter as the Bears took a 10-3 non-conference baseball victory from Sam Houston State Wednesday night at Don Sanders Stadium.
Baylor (15-7) extended their current winning streak to four games as the Bears totaled 12 hits off the Sam Houston's nine pitchers.
Joey Hainsfurther (2-0) picked up the win in his first start of the season. The right-hander gave up only two hits in five innings, striking out three Bearkats.
Sam Houston (11-9) scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Catcher John Hale's ground ball scored shortstop Corey Toups who opened the bottom of the sixth inning with a double to put SHSU on the board. Right fielder Jake Arrington extended his hitting streak to nine games with an RBI single. A sacrifice fly by third baseman Kevin Miller cut the margin to 9-3.
Catcher Josh Ludy blasted a double to the wall in right field to give Baylor three runs in the top of the first inning. All three Bear base runners reached on walks.
Two walks and a hit batter got the Bearkats in trouble again in the top of the third inning. Left fielder Dan Evatt and shortstop Jake Miller both singled in runs with the bases loaded.
Two more walks and an error led to two more runs for Baylor in the top of the fifth inning. Second baseman Lawton Langford and first baseman Max Muncy drove in runs in the sixth with a single and a double, respectively.
The Bears added a 10th run in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Muncy.
Starter Andrew Godail (0-1) was the losing pitcher.
Sam Houston State will play host to Texas State in a three-game Southland Conference series beginning Friday.
