Trevor Sealy led the Kats with an impressive performance in the hammer throw. His 186-8 toss won the meet and was a season best.
Sealy stands as the second best hammer thrower in SHSU history. The sophomore trails only Chris Cralle, a former All-American for Sam Houston in the event.
Another Bearkat sophomore, Freddy Arellano, also made history for the Kats.
Arellano took fifth in the 800 meter run with a season best time of 1:52.29. The time makes him the 4th fastest SHSU 800 meter runner in outdoor history and he stands barely over a second away from the all-time record.
DJ Hayes won the 400 meter dash with a time of 47.29. Hayes is the all-time record holder for SHSU in the event and Saturday was his first time to run the event this season.
Hayes also earned third place in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 53.23.
Trey Jones also ran well in the 400 meter dash putting in a season best time of 47.96 for a sixth place finish.
Charles White won his fourth event of the outdoor season Friday. White jumped 24-4.5 in the long jump, less than two inches away from a personal record.
Henry Jordan also took fifth in the event with a jump of 23-06.75.
Karique Stephen also won his event, taking first place in the triple jump. Stephen jumped 46-11.75 for his third top ten finish of the season.
Sam Houston had a successful meet in the pole vault with two top four finishes.
Ryan Oakes took second in the event behind a season best clearance of 16-6.75 and Cody Feazell earned fourth, clearing 16-0.75, also a season best.
Matthew Viverette achieved his second lifetime record of the season in the 110 meter hurdles with a second place finish in San Marcus and a time of 14.13.
Viverette is the fifth fastest SHSU runner ever in the event and is only .07 seconds away from former Bearkat John Thomas who stands as the fourth fastest 110 meter hurdler.
In the 100 meter dash Jarrick Wright took fifth place (10.75) and Jordan took sixth (10.79).
Wright also ran a season best in the 200 meter dash of 21.44 for sixth place and Matt Buegeler ran a lifetime record of 21.66 for eighth.
Both the 4x100 meter relay (41.05) and the 4x400 meter relay (3:14.41) took third place at the meet.
The next action for the SHSU track and field teams will be next Saturday at the J. Fred Duckett Twilite at Rice University.
