Soccer Faces Tough Opponents

Friday, the Kats take on Saint Mary's University from Moraga, Calif., at 4 p.m. Sunday Sam Houston faces nationally-ranked Rutgers at 10:30 a.m.
The Gaels bring a 1-2 record into Friday's match while Sam Houston stands 2-2.
Last week Saint Mary's dropped a 4-1 decision to Southern California in their only action. The Gaels have scored four goals in three matches this year. Katy Roby, Minissian, Noria Mitchell and Melinda Madden have each scored for SMC. Roby has added two assists while Vicki Shimkus has also assisted on a score.
Sam Houston State is coming off a weekend split, losing to North Texas in double overtime 1-0, and an overtime win over Texas Southern. The Bearkats are led by Ashley Alonzo and Tricia Mallory who have scored both of the goals this season for SHSU. Both Michele McCullough and Kyle Hambleton have seen action in goal, with each earning a victory.
This will be the first ever meeting between the Gaels and Bearkats.
Sam Houston is in the middle of a five-match road swing. The Bearkats will travel to New Mexico State and UTEP on Sept. 7 and 9, respectively, after the A&M tournament.
Next home action for the Bearkats is Friday, Sept. 14, when Sam Houston will play host to UTSA.
