Rice shuts out Bearkats 2-0

The Sam Houston women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Rice Sunday afternoon in a contest moved to Houston after rain made the SHSU playing field unplayable.

Both Owl goals came in the first half.

Holly Argreaves scored the first goal at the 9:22 mark from six yards out off a cornerkick. Lauren Hughes tallied the second goal atl0:14 on a give-and-go with Becca Boval.

Rice totaled 22 shots for the game. Bearkat goalkeeper Kylie Hambleton made seven saves.

Tricia Mallory and Ashley Alonzo were credited with shots for Sam Houston State.

Rice upped its season mark to 3-4-2 Sunday while Sam Houston fell to 3-4-2.

Sam Houston will complete its non-conference schedule with a trip to Colorado Springs to meet Air Force Friday.

The Bearkats open Southland Conference action the next weekend, hosting Nicholls State Friday Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. and Central Arkansas Sunday Sept. 30 at 1 p.m.
