Homecoming Oct. 20 to be televised

That number has now increased to six games featured on TV. The Kats' home matchup against McNeese State on Oct. 20 has been moved to a primetime kickoff and will be featured on the new Comcast SportsNet Houston.
The game will now kick off at 7 p.m. The game was originally scheduled to kick off at 2 p.m.
"This is a great opportunity for us to add another televised game to our already impressive slate this season," said SHSU director of athletics Bobby Williams. "We are also very excited to be working with Comcast SportsNet Houston to get this game televised. We met with them last month and they were very excited about getting involved with Sam Houston sports, so we think this will be a very good fit for us."
CSN Houston is a new regional sports network based out of Houston and will have a six state regional coverage area. The network is set to launch on Oct. 1 and will also be the new home of the Houston Astros and Houston Rockets.
"Part of our focus as a regional sports network is to provide the most comprehensive regional sports coverage available," said Matt Hutchings, President and General Manager for Comcast SportsNet Houston. "After competing for the FCS title last season, we know Sam Houston State's wide local alumni base will provide strong local interest and viewership."
Currently, both SHSU and McNeese State are ranked in the polls, with the Kats topping out at No. 9 and McNeese at No. 21. The team teams combined for 25 selections on the 2012 preseason All-Southland Conference team.
The Bearkats entered the season as the No. 1 ranked team in the country after reaching the national championship game last season. The 2011 Southland Conference championship was the fourth since 1991 and the fifth NCAA playoff appearance for the Bearkats.
McNeese State is the "winningest" Southland football team with 151 victories. They also have the most Southland football titles with 13 and six since 2001. They also lead the league in NCAA Division I playoff appearances with 14.
McNeese leads all-time series 24-8-1, Bearkats won 38-14 last year in Cowboy Stadium.
Last year, the Bearkats won their first 14 games of the season to grab the first No. 1 ranking in school history. They won three home games in the playoffs to reach the NCAA Division I National Championship game in Frisco, falling to North Dakota State 17-6. Five Americans return from that 14-1 team including 2012 Walter Payton Award candidates Timothy Flanders and Richard Sincere and Buck Buchannan Award candidate Darnell Taylor.
