Las Cruces, New Mexico - Tricia Mallory scored her second game-winning goal four minutes and 35 seconds into overtime to give Sam Houston State a 1-0 non-conference soccer victory over New Mexico State Friday night.
The tally marked the 21st career goal for the junior midfielder. She ranks second in SHSU all-time goal scoring. Rachel Bueno set the record of 27 career goals between 2005 and 2008.
The victory lifts Sam Houston to 3-4 for the year. Mallory's first goal this season also was a match-winner in overtime at Texas Southern two weeks ago.
Mallory scored on a shot from nearly 20 yards out on the left side. Hailey Shelpuk's pass set up the score.
Freshman Kylie Hambleton saves five of New Mexico State's 10 shoots to pick up her second shutout of the season.
Mallory accounted for three of the Bearkats' 12 shots during the match. With time running out in regulation, Amana Biega had a shot saved in the 86th minute and Mallory's blast with 1:09 remaining also was saved.
Sam Houston's next action is a Sunday matchup with the University of Texas at El Paso.
