Bearkats Perform Well In Season Opener at A&M

Matthew Viverette won the men's 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.01 to highlight action for the Sam Houston State track and field team in the Bearkats' first indoor meet of the 2013 season Saturday at Texas A&M
Viverette also led off the Kat men's 4x400 M Relay that place seventh wiwth a time of 3:17.17. Leroy Harris, Rodney Jones and Jarrick Wright were the other members of the relay.
Sam Houston's relay of Freddy Arellano, Andrew Waller, DeQuad Binder and Karl Schreiber were the runner-up in the men's distance medley (10:14.59)
Arellano (1:55.42) and Binder (1:56.01) also placed fifth and seventh in the men's 800 meters.
Rodney Jones was the fourth place finisher in the men's 400 meters (47.95)
Matt Johnson was seventh in the men's long jump (22' 4.5").
Shelbie Zotyka's runner-up finish in the pole vault with a mark of 12' 4.75" highlighted action for the Sam Houston women at the Texas A&M Indoor.
Ashley Thompson (11' 10.75") and Kara Whitson (10' 9") placed sixth and ninth, respectively in the pole vault.
Winnie Ileso placed seventh in the long jump (18' 0.5")while Ashley Jenkins finished seventh in the weight throw (54' 1.75")
Alyssa Dooley was a ninth place performer in the one mile run (5:09.48)
