The Bearkat offense struggled in the second half and
overtime as Sam Houston lost 70-67 in overtime to Nicholls State Saturday.
DeMarcus Gatlin led the Bearkats with 12 points. James
Thomas had nine points and 10 rebounds. Thomas missed two free throws in
overtime with an opportunity to tie or go ahead.
The Bearkats shot only 13-of-24 from the free-throw line for
the game.
The Bearkats had a 40-28 lead at the intermission. Sam
Houston was shooting 55% from the field and made six three pointers. The Kats
led by as many as 14 points.
Sam Houston made only five field goals in the second half, shooting
just 19%.
Will Bond, Darius Gatson, and Paul Baxter each added nine
points.
Dantrell Thomas was Nicholls' leading scorer with 15 points
including seven-for-seven on free throws. Amin Torres scored 12 points and T.J.
Carpenter had 11.
The Bearkats will play next Saturday at Texas A&M-Corpus
Christi.
