For the final three home games of the season for Sam Houston State football, current Houston Astros broadcaster Robert Ford will join the Bearkat Sports Network broadcast team.
Ford, who just finished his first season as the lead radio play-by-play voice for the Astros will handle the same duties for the online video stream of the Kats three remaining games at Bowers Stadium, including Saturday's game against Lamar.
“We are excited to have Robert on the broadcasts for the remainder of the season,” said director of athletics Bobby Williams. “He is a recognizable name in the Houston market and will add an extra element to our online broadcasts.”
Before moving up to the booth, Ford was the pregame/postgame host for the franchise and performed the same role with the Kansas City Royals as their radio host for the pregame and postgame shows. His other baseball play-by-play experiences came from the Binghamton Mets, Yakima Bears, and the Kalamazoo Kings.
Outside of baseball, he called Binghamton Bearcats women's and select men's basketball. He also called select high school football and basketball games for WCDO. In 2003 and 2004, Ford was named Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year.
Ford grew up in The Bronx and attended and graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor's degree in broadcasting journalism in 2001.
In addition to Saturday's homecoming game against Lamar, Ford will also be on the broadcast for the Kats' game against Northwestern State on Oct. 26 and the final regular season game at home against Nicholls on Nov. 9.
All three games can be seen with a monthly subscription to the Bearkat Sports Network for $8.95. To subscribe click here: Bearkat Sports Network subscription
