
Volleyball Hosts UNO Thursday Night

In the midst of a tight five-game race for first place in the Southland Conference, Sam Houston State hosts two important Southland Conference matches this weekend at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
The Bearkats face New Orleans Thursday at 7 p.m. and Southeastern Louisiana Saturday at 2 p.m. Thursday is “Dig Pink” night at the coliseum to promote breast cancer awareness.
Central Arkansas is the only team in the league still unbeaten in Southland play. The Bears are 7-0.
Sam Houston is one of three squads right on UCA's heals with only one conference loss. The Bearkats are 7-1, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is 8-1 and Northwestern State is 6-1. Oral Roberts in close behind with a 5-2 league mark.
Sam Houston, winners of eight of their last 10 matches, stands 10-7 for the season.
New Orleans brings a 3-19 season record on 0-9 Southland mark into Thursday's match. The Lions from Hammond, La., are 1-8 in league action and 7-14 for the year.
Seniors Tayler Gray and Haley Neisler and junior Deveney Wells-Gibson lead the Bearkat volleyball team.
Wells-Gibson leads the Southland in kills with 257 for the year. She holds a 4.36 kills per average for the season and is averaging 4.93 in league play.
Gray ranks fourth in the Southland in assists per set (10.42) and stands 14th in digs (3.54).
Neisler stands fourth in blocks with 54 this year. Freshman libero Breanna Homer stands third in the Southland in service aces (29). Claire Kirkpatrick is 14th with 11 aces.
