National exposure is nothing new for Sam Houston State's Walter Payton Award Candidate Timothy Flanders. This month, the senior running back is on the cover of “Beyond the Sidelines” Magazine.
The 61-page October issue aims to provide stories from every level of sports by some of the best young writers in the country. According to the publication's Director of Media, Sean O'Brien, their goal is to offer a little of everything. “From coaching perspectives to training tips and views into the worlds of various college players – BTS has you covered,” O'Brien said.

Flanders spoke to writer Eric Blum about what it takes to be successful and his path to becoming the Southland Conference's all-time leading rusher.
Flanders and the No. 2 ranked Bearkats take their show on the road this weekend for a top-10 matchup with Southland rival No. 9 McNeese State. The Cowboys lead the all-time series with SHSU 20-5 and hold an 11-2 advantage at home.
SHSU has won the last two games over McNeese State including a 38-14 win in 2011 in “The Hole”.
The Cowboys and Bearkats kickoff at 7 p.m. on Louis Bonnette Field at Cowboy Stadium. The game will be streamed live on ESPN3.
