
First place Kats on the road again

Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas, the two teams that were Southland Conference co-champions in 2012, find themselves deadlocked again in first place six matches into the 2013 league season.
Both the Bearkats and the Bears are 6-0 and on a roll.
Sam Houston (9-6 for the season) has won eight of its last 10 matches. The Bearkats head on the road again this week, taking on two of the newest members of the Southland Conference.
SHSU volleyball faces Incarnate Word in San Antonio Thursday night and Abilene Christian on the road Saturday afternoon.
UIW is 7-8 for the year and 2-4 in league play. Abilene Christian stands 6-12 for the season and 1-5 in Southland action.
Sam Houston players remain among the leaders in the Southland in almost every statistics category this week.
Outside hitter Deveney Wells-Gibson is tops in the Southland in total kills, averaging 4.24 per set.
Setter Tayler Gray ranks third in the league in assists (10.55) and 14th in digs (3.33 per set).
Libero Breanna Homer ranks number one in service aces with 28 and stands seventh in the Southland in digs (4.22).
Middle blocker Haley Neisler ranks fifth among Southland players in total blocks (44).
Rolling to their 6-0 Southland record, Sam Houston has dropped only one set.
Sam Houston State returns to Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum for the team's next home matches Thursday Oct. 17 against New Orleans at 7 p.m. and Saturday Oct. 19 versus Southeastern Louisiana at 2 p.m.
