
Kats roll to 116-54 win in home opener

Led by Dakari Henderson with 21 points and Will Bond with 20, five Sam Houston players scored in double figures as the Bearkats raced past Hillside Free Baptist College from Moore, Okla., 116-54 in the home opener for SHSU.
Sam Houston (2-0) led 62-16 at intermission, the third most points scored by a Bearkat squad in a first period (just three short of the school record of 65).
Aurimas Majauskas added 19 points for Sam Houston while Jabari Peters scored 12 and Kaheem Ransom and Paul Baxter each totaled 10 points. Michael Holyfield pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked five shots.
Chris Williams led Hillside with 11 points.
Sam Houston shot 57 percent from the floor (45-of-79) including 17 of 31 three point shots. Bond was 6-of-9 from behind the arc.
"I think we're a good shooting team," SHSU head coach Jason Hooten said. "We've improved in that area. We started with good intensity. We came out and established our will right away."
The Kats dominated inside the paint as well, out-rebounding the Saints 53-30 and out-scoring Hillside 50-16 inside.
Sam Houston State takes on Prairie View A&M in a road contest Thursday at 7 p.m.
