Texas A&M-Corpus Christi defeated Sam Houston 25-20 25-16 25-20 in the final regular season volleyball match for both teams Saturday afternoon in Corpus Christi.
Deveney Wells-Gibson led the Bearkats with 12 kills. Haley Neisler added eight and Breanna Homer posted five kills.
The loss drops Sam Houston to 17-10 for the year. The Bearkats finished Southland Conference action 14-3.
Ashley Phelps led the Islanders with 12 kills. A&M-Corpus Christi hit .247 as a team with 44 kills and only 15 errors in 129 attempts.
Sam Houston ended the match with an .097 hitting percentage with 34 kills and 22 errors in 124 attempts. The Kats committed 11 errors in the second set and nine in the third.
The Bearkats will return to Corpus Christi for the 2013 Southland Conference post-season tournament Friday. The semifinals will be Saturday and the tournament finals, which will decide the league's NCAA playoffs representative, will be Sunday.
