Sam Houston No. 9 In Both Polls

For the first time since 1988, the Southland Conference has three teams ranked among the top 10 teams in both FCS polls.
In the final poll of the 1988 season, Northwestern State stood No. 8, Stephen F. Austin No. 9 and North Texas No. 10.
This week, the Sports Network FCS poll has McNeese State No. 6, Southeastern Louisiana No. 8 and Sam Houston No. 9. The NCAA Coaches' poll ranks the Cowboys No. 8, Sam Houston No. 9 and Southeastern Louisiana No. 10.
The Lions clinched at least a share of the 2013 Southland championship and the league's automatic berth in the NCAA Division I championship playoffs Saturday with a 34-21 victory over Sam Houston. Southeastern Louisiana is the only Southland squad unbeaten in conference play with a 6-0 league mark. McNeese is in second place at 5-1 and Sam Houston is in third at 4-2.
Sam Houston stands 8-3 for the year. The Bearkats' record includes a victory over No. 3 ranked Eastern Washington. The Eagles were No. 2 in both polls the weekend Sam Houston knocked them off in Huntsville.
Sam Houston has been ranked among the FCS top 25 for 36 consecutive weeks. The team debuted in the national poll Sept. 9, 2011. During an 11-0 regular season in 2011, the Kats rose to No. 1 at the end of the regular season.
SHSU has ranked among the FCS top 10 for 32 consecutive polls. Sam Houston has finished each of the past two seasons No. 2 in the final rankings in both polls.
