Kaheem Ransom was one of five Bearkats to score in double figures as Sam Houston State eased to a 98-48 win over Jarvis Christian at Johnson Coliseum Wednesday night. The win moves the Kats to 4-0 this season.
Ransom totaled 16 points while dishing out six assists and pulling down five rebounds. Dakarai Henderson finished with 15 points, on three treys. Michael Holyfield had his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The 6'11” junior finished with three blocks.
Aurimas Majauskas totaled 12 points, 10 of which were scored in the second half. Paul Baxter rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points.
The Bearkats were pitching a shutout at the first media timeout, with a 9-0 lead, and didn't let up on either end of the floor. The SHSU defense forced 12 turnovers and held the Bulldogs to just 27% shooting from the floor in the first period. Sam Houston State hit 53 % of their shots, including six three-pointers.
Dewayne Wade was the leading scorer for Jarvis Christian with eight points. DeMarkevian Farmer came into the game averaging 18 points per contest but the Kats held him to five in the game.
Sam Houston State narrowly missed scoring over 100 points for the third consecutive game.
The schedule gets tougher this week as the Bearkats head to College Station to play Texas A&M Sunday at 4 p.m. The Kats then travel to Dallas to play SMU Tuesday at 7 p.m.
