With the opportunity for the Southland Conference to place three teams into the NCAA Division I FCS playoffs for the first time since 2001 and only the fifth time in league history, fans are looking forward to FCS Selection Sunday this weekend.
A special “sneak peak” into the NCAA's selection process is online on the NCAA web site at http://www.ncaa.com/fcs-selections-101
The page features a special video with NCAA Managing Director for Championships and Alliances Damani Leech who oversees the operation and management of the FCS championship.
The interview answers the most popular question asked by football fans in November is, "How does the NCAA pick the teams for the FCS playoff?"
The field for the FCS playoffs has been expanded to 24 teams this year. The top eight seeded squads will receive opening round byes.
The NCAA will announced playoff selections on Sunday. The Southland is one of 11 conferences whose champion automatically qualifies. Southeastern Louisiana already has nailed down that berth.
Sam Houston and McNeese State hope to be among the 13 teams selected at-large by the Division I Football Committee.
Should the Bearkats earn a home playoff game, complete ticket details will be available on www.gobearkats.com at 12 noon Sunday.
