Both the Bearkats and the Aggies are 4-0. For Sam Houston State, the four consecutive wins to begin the 2013-14 schedule represent the program's best start since the 2008 Kats went 10-0.
Sam Houston's victories include road wins over Texas-Pan American and Prairie View and a pair of home decisions over Hillsdale Baptist and Jarvis Christian.
A defensive-minded squad last year that ranked second in the Southland Conference in fewest points allowed, the 2013-14 Bearkats have turned into a scoring machine.
Sam Houston is averaging 99.8 points per contest. The Bearkats are led by junior college transfers Kaheem Ransom (17.0 points) and Jabarai Peters (16.3). Redshirt freshman Dakarai Henderson adds 14.0 points per game.
Michael Holyfield, the Kats' 6-11 junior post, is becoming a force underneath the basket with 7.8 rebounds per game and 14 blocks.
Texas A&M has wins over Buffalo, Mississippi Valley State, Rice and Prairie View A&M.
The Aggies have size with 6-9 Kourtney Roberson, 6-5 Alex Caruso and 6-4 Shaun Smith leading the way. Roberson averaged 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Caruso and Smith add 12.8 and 10.3 scoring averages, respectively.
The game with Texas A&M is the first contest in a three-week, seven-game road swing for Sam Houston State.
The game will be broadcast live on the web at GoBearkats.com or on the GoBearkats mobile app.
The Bearkats will not return to Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum until Dec. 28 when Sam Houston plays host to LIU-Brooklyn.
