Mariah Titus Named All-Southland

Sam Houston State sophomore midfielder Mariah Titus has been selected to the 2013 All-Conference soccer second-team, the Southland announced Tuesday.
The Bearkats' leading scorer, Titus, is joined by teammates Tricia Mallory, Megan Bennett and Kylie Hambleton as Honorable Mention selections.
Titus has scored eight goals from the midfield so far this season, including three game-winners.
Nicholls sophomore forward Spencer Valdespino was named the 2013 Southland Conference Soccer Player of the Year. A native of Spring Hill, Fla., Valdespino finished the regular season leading the league in shots (108), shots per game (6.00), points (37), points per game (2.06), goals (16), goals per game (0.89), second in game-winning goals (six), eighth in assists (five) and ninth in assists per game (0.28).
The lone Sam Houston senior, Mallory is second on the team with four goals. SHSU's second all-time leading scorer, she accepted a move into the midfield this season. Late this season she has been forced to play in defense due to injuries.
A true freshman starter in defense, Bennett has been a rock at the back for the Kats. She has started every game and scored one goal. She was named Southland Defensive Player of the Week once this season.
The second-year goalkeeper, Hambleton improved upon her freshman season in which she earned Southland Freshman of the Year honors. The Katy product was named Goalkeeper of the Week once this season.
