Six Kats Named To 50th Anniversary Team

Six Bearkat track and field standouts have been named to the Southland Conference 50th Anniversary All-Time Men's Indoor Track & Field honor roll.
The men's honor roll includes 101 elite student-athletes in the sport going back to 1970, even though the Southland held its first indoor championship meet in 1980.
Joining the list of honor roll members from Sam Houston are Joe Amburn, Courtney Boston, Michael Courtney, Chris Gonzales, Shane Stewart and Raul Villarreal.
Amburn won four indoor gold medals from 2000-03 in the mile and distance medley. Boston was a two-time champion in both the 60 and 200 meters in 2002-04. Courtney won gold twice in the 400 meters and ran on two championship 4x400 relays in 2006-2010. Gonzales won the league shot put championship in 1995, 1996 and 1997. Stewart was a three-time pole vault gold medalist in 1996-99. Villlarreal took first places in both the 3,000 and 5,000 events.
The Conference selected those performers that had multiple accomplishments during their careers, including numerous conference championships won, records set, NCAA and national championships, and participation in international competition.
