Terrance Motley scored 14 points and Jabari Peters added 13 to lead Sam Houston to a 67-55 victory over Towson Saturday in Sam Houston's second game at the E-Tech Lumberjack Classic hosted by Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches.
The victory upped Sam Houston to 7-3 for the year, the Bearkats' best start since opening the 2007-08 season 10-0. The Kats defeated James Madison 67-66 in Friday's E-Tech Classic opening contest.
Towson held a brief two-point lead in the game's opening moments. But Sam Houston never trailed after two free throws by Peters gave the Kats a 4-3 lead with 16:06 to play in the first half.
A pair of free throws by Motley 5:21 before intermission put Sam Houston up 12, 28-16, for the Kats' largest lead of the first half. Sam Houston led 32-25 at halftime.
A three-point basket by Peters gave Sam Houston its largest lead, 58-35, with 8:39 to play in the game.
James Thomas led the Bearkats on the boards with six points. Thomas and Kaheem Ransom each scored eight points.
The Sam Houston men's basketball team breaks for finals before heading to face Toledo on the road next Saturday.
