The Bearkat softball team lost an 8-0 run-rule game to the
No. 10 ranked Texas A&M Aggies in six innings.
Aggie senior Mel Dumezich struck out ten in five innings
while only allowing one hit, a Kim Damian single in the fourth inning. Sophomore
Lauren Ainsley pitched the final inning, striking out two and allowing a single
to Tori Benavidez.
The Aggie offense was powered by three home runs. Megan May
hit a towering solo homerun to left field in the third inning. Nicole Morgan
hit a solo homerun to right to lead off the fourth and a three-run shot to left
field in the sixth.
Shelby Lancaster started for the Kats and pitched four
innings allowing five runs on eight hits. Lancaster struck out two Aggies. She
was able to battle out of trouble in the second and third innings before giving
up two runs in the fourth and the leadoff homer in the fifth.
Meme Quinn replaced Lancaster in the fifth and didn't allow
a run. Quinn then struggled in the sixth inning, allowing the three-run homerun
to Morgan.
The Kats will head back on the road for tournaments at
Southern Mississippi, Feb. 15-17, and at Texas State the following weekend.
