James Thomas scored 17 points and pulled down ten rebounds
but Sam Houston fell to Nicholls State 56-53 at Johnson Coliseum Thursday
night.
The Bearkats took a 51-49 lead on a James Thomas layup with
1:03 left to play. Nicholls came right down the floor and Dantrell Thomas nailed
a three to retake the lead, 52-51. The Kats couldn't get a basket on the
following possession and Nicholls' Thomas hit a pair of free throws to put the
game away.
"We were in kind of a funk all night," said coach Jason
Hooton. "We shot just 35% for the game."
Dantrell Thomas scored 22 points, including a trio of three
pointers. Fred Hunter scored ten points and pulled down 14 boards.
The Kats started slowly and trailed by as much as 15-6 in
the first half before going on a 14-2 run to take a 20-17 lead at the break.
Paul Baxter and Will Bond each had nine points and Darius
Gatson chipped in eight.
