Sam Houston split a Southland Conference softball doubleheader with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday afternoon at Roadrunner Field.
The Bearkats run-ruled the Islanders 10-2 in the first game but allowed a three-run lead to slip away in the nightcap as A&M-Corpus Christi bounced back for a 5-4 win.
Kim Damian started things off for the Bearkats with a three-run homer in the first inning of the opener. The Bearkats totaled their 10 runs on 10 hits with Tiffany Castillo leading the way going 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs.
Mimi Quinn picked up her eighth victory in the circle, limiting the Islanders to five hits in five innings.
Hillary Adams had a two-run single in the first inning and Damian added RBI singles in both the first and third innings to give Sam Houston an early 4-0 lead.
A&M Corpus Christi scored two runs in the bottom of the third and tied the game 4-4.
Ashley Isbell hit a solo home run to give the Kats a 5-4 lead in the top of the seven but the Islanders' Vallerie Perez hit a two-run walkoff homer to give A&M-Corpus Christi the split.
The rubber game of the series will be Sunday at 12 noon.
