Sam Houston will get a chance for revenge against Texas A&M as the Aggies visit Don Sanders Stadium Tuesday with first pitch at 6:30 p.m. The Aggies dropped the Bearkats 4-1 last week in College Station.
The Bearkats (20-15, 8-4) lost their first Southland series of the season at Lamar last weekend. After winning five in a row, SHSU has now lost three of their last four games.
Texas A&M (21-16, 6-9) was swept by Mississippi State at home after beating the Kats last week. The Aggies have lost their last three series but are 10-0 in midweeks this season.
“I think it's great for our team and our fans for the Aggies to come to town and have the SEC be a part of our schedule,” said Bearkat head coach David Pierce. “These are the opportunities and the challenges that we want. These are the types of games that we want to play.”
PROBABLE PITCHING MATCHUP
RHP Tyler Eppler (3-2, 3.41 ERA) vs. RHP Grayson Long (3-1, 3.48 ERA)
In the first matchup between the two teams, A&M starter Corey Ray shut down the Bearkat lineup. He pitched six and allowed just three hits and two walks. The middle of SHSU's batting order was held hitless in the game.
Left fielder Luke Plucheck was the only Kat able to put a run on the board with a solo homerun off of reliever Matt Kent. Plucheck kept swinging a hot bat into the weekend series at Lamar. In Saturday's game, the junior had a double, a triple, and four runs driven in. He leads the team with 27 RBI.
Starter Tyler Eppler pitched six innings against TAMU, allowing four runs on six hits while most of the damage was done on a three-run homer in the third inning.
Eppler has a 3.41 ERA with 22 strikeouts in seven midweek starts and ten appearances overall. The sophomore owns wins over Texas, Rice, and Houston this season.
Catcher Troy Stein drove in all four of the Aggie runs against Sam Houston. The backstop blasted his first homerun of the year and is hitting .294 with 11 RBI.
Leadoff hitter Mikey Reynolds had two hits against the Bearkats and leads the team with a .394 average. The shortstop has reached base in every game this season.
Sam Houston will host Prairie View A&M a day after the Aggies. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Don Sanders Stadium.
