Ashten Ackerman joins Kat athletic staff

Ashten Ackerman has joined the Sam Houston State athletic staff as special events coordinator.
In this role, she will create and support the athletics department in planning major special events and fundraising efforts, as well as assisting with the Bearkat Champions Fund.
Prior to her arrival at Sam Houston State, Ackerman worked for the Central Florida YMCA as aquatics director, overseeing operations, fundraising events, and assisting in re-branding efforts.
She also worked for IMG College as an account executive in the ticket solutions offices at Duke University.
While at Rice, Ackerman worked as marketing assistant for the Rice Owls athletics department, overseeing game operations for Soccer, Basketball and Baseball. She was part of the Battle Red Stampede, assisting with in-game promotions for the Houston Texans.
She assisted with the 2010 NCAA Men's Basketball Regional, and was the liaison between Rice and the NCAA during the 2011 NCAA Men's Final Four Basketball Championships, working primarily with Bracket Town, the Downtown Dribble, the Career in Sports Forum and the Big Dance Concert Series.
Ackerman received her BA in Sport Management from Rice University in 2011, where she was also a member of the C-USA Championship swim team. During her time at Rice, Ackerman was also Vice President of the Sport Management Club, RUSBA.
