John Holder, a member of Sam Houston's athletic administration staff since 1997, has been named as assistant athletic director for finance.
Bearkat director of athletics Bobby Williams announced the promotion Monday. Holder has served as the department's administrative coordinator since 2009.
“John Holder is an outstanding employee and very deserving of this promotion,” Williams said. “A valuable resource in the administration of the athletic department, John was one of the leaders for us in the athletic department's implementation of the Banner system the past two years.”
As assistant athletic director for finance, Holder will assist with budget development and implementation, budget transfers, change of budget and completion of NCAA financial reports, equity in athletics reports and open records requests.
Holder will be responsible for athletic scholarships and national letters of intent, all athletic department deposits and the NCAA Special Assistance Fund. He will serve as the department's liaison with the Sam Houston financial aid, budget, bursar's, student financial services, audits and analysis and IT offices.
A 1991 graduate of Lumberton High School, Holder first joined the Sam Houston athletic staff as manager for the Bearkat baseball team. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Sam Houston in 1996 and his Masters of Business Administration degree in 2000.
His many positions with Bearkat athletics have included student employee (1992-97), athletic administration (1997-2004), facilities (1997-2003), NCAA compliance (2001-09) and finance (2009-present).
