Bearkats scrimmage Wednesday night

With the 2013 Sam Houston football season opener a week-and-a-half away, the Bearkats will hold their final scrimmage of this year's preseason camp Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium.
Houston Baptist will be the opponent for the Kats in the season opener Saturday Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. in Huntsville. Head coach Willie Fritz and his staff will be taking a final look at the 95 players in camp to decide who will be in the two-deep for the regular season.
“Right now, we're paring it down,” Fritz said. “We're going to have to make some tough decisions as who's going to be playing this year and then we're going to start prepping for our first ballgame with the guys that are going to take the reps during the game.”
In their scrimmage last Saturday morning the Kats worked on a variety of scenarios, such as the two-minute drill, plays at the goal line and overtime situations.
“These are situations that you want to work on,” Fritz said. “You want to make sure you touch all situations, hopefully in great detail, during the preseason, so that when those situations arrive during the season the kids know what they're doing.”
Following the opener with HBU, the Bearkats travel to College Station to face Texas A&M Sept. 7. Sam Houston returns to Bowers Stadium to host Texas Southern Sept. 14
