Bearkats Wrap Up Summer Baseball

Sam Houston State infielder Carter Burgess' MVP award highlights the many accomplishments by Bearkats in the collegiate summer leagues. In all the Bearkats claimed four all-star spots while 20 Kats competed nationwide.
Burgess earned the Rochester Honkers Most Valuable Player honors for his outstanding summer in the Northwoods League (MN).
The Houston product hit .373 with five homeruns, 13 doubles, and 25 RBI in his time in Rochester. His season was highlighted by a 23-game hitting streak that he carried through his first 23 games with the team. The streak was the second longest in team history and the fourth longest in Northwoods League history.
Burgess final game representing the Honkers came in Northwoods League All-Star game, where he earned MVP honors as he went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI while turning in a defensive gem to record the game's final out.
Colt Atwood, Ryan O'Hearn and Andrew Godail all played for the Santa Barbara Foresters, who finished fourth at the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan. Atwood earned NBC World Series All-American honors while O'Hearn was a California Collegiate League All-Star and the MVP of the Rawlings California Cup.
Dirk Masters was named All-Texas Collegiate League designated hitter for his performances. Masters finished third in the league in batting average (.330), second in home runs (7) and tied for fourth in RBI (37).
