Tickets for public sale to the 2014 NCAA Division I Football Championship Game, to be held at FC Dallas Stadium on Jan. 4, have been sold as all available tickets were purchased within an hour of going on sale Wednesday morning.
Team Frisco, the local organizing committee consisting of the Southland Conference, the City of Frisco and Hunt Sports Group, announced that the only remaining tickets are those being held for the two teams playing in the championship game.
Now the only way for Sam Houston State fans to guarantee themselves national championship game tickets is by purchasing midfield bleacher reserved season tickets for the Bearkats' seven contests at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium this fall.
Bleacher reserved season tickets will remain on sale for $110 each until the Texas Southern game at Bowers Sept. 14.
Season tickets may be purchased online at www.gobearkats.com or by calling the SHSU athletic ticket office at (936) 294-1729. The ticket office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“We are certainly pleased to report the overwhelming and quick demand for NCAA Championship Game tickets,” Southland Conference commissioner Tom Burnett said. “When we were first awarded the opportunity to host the game in Frisco, we envisioned the game could become an advance sellout without waiting until the game's exact matchup was determined. This is great news for Team Frisco, the NCAA and everyone invested in the well-being of the Division I Football Championship Subdivision.”
This season's championship game will be televised live nationally on ESPN2. The past two championship games matching Sam Houston State and North Dakota State at FC Dallas Stadium have been played in front of capacity crowds of 20,586 in 2012 and 21,411 this past year.
