Kats off to strong start

Both SHSU cross country teams got the fall off to successful starts Friday.
Bearkat women's newcomer Mirando Prado posted the SFA Triple Dual meet's second fastest time with a mark of 11.52.08.
The clocking lifted the women to head-to-head wins over Stephen F. Austin and Houston Baptist.
Hiba Kreidie of HBU ran a 11:37.37 for the best time in the women's two-mile race.
Sam Houston's Olivia Olguin placed third among all competitors with a time of 11:53.23. Ana Moreno (11:59.61) was fifth and Nicole Aponte (12:01.12) sixth. Haleigh Cebalos posted a time of 14:05.87.
In the men's races Lucia Rosas led the Bearkats in the 5K men's competition with a time of 16:14.90, the second fastest men's time among the three teams.
Other men's clocking included Ryan Saam 16:41.02, Logan Terry 16:58.92, J. T. Bounds 17:02.19 and Miguel Varnado 17:39.
Next action for the Bearkat cross country team will be the Rice Invitational Sept. 13 in Houston.
