Boone, NC – Junior outside hitter Deveney Wells-Gibson and senior setter Tayler Gray both were named to the all-tournament team as Sam Houston posted a runner-up finish at the Applachian State Mountaineer Invitational volleyball event.
Wells-Gibson totaled 33 kills including a tournament high 18 in Sam Houston's four-set victory over Loyola-Maryland. Wells-Gibson also totaled 32 digs and four blocks on defense.
Gray assisted on 84 of Sam Houston's 120 kills during the tournament and posted 30 digs.
Sam Houston defeated Loyola 25-21 25-15 22-25 25-20 to nail down the runner-up finish in the tournament.
The Mountaineers defeated Sam Houston 25-23 25-23 25-20.
Wells-Gibson also was the Kats' offensive leader each of the other two tournament matches.
"We played so much better today," Head coach Brenda Gray said. "I'm very proud of the improvement in just one day. With five new players in the lineup including the libero, we did very well."
Sam Houston State will open its 2013 home schedule Tuesday at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum hosting Texas State at 7 p.m.
