Rodney Jones earns Athlete of Week Honors

Sam Houston State junior Rodney Jones is the Southland Conference Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

The award for Jones comes after the opening week of the 2014 indoor track and field season.

Jones earned the award of the season by collecting a pair of victories last weekend at the Houston Indoor Opener hosted by the University of Houston.

The junior from DeSoto, Texas (Lancaster H.S.), won the individual title in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.29 seconds and anchored the Bearkats in claiming the 4x400 meter relay title with a time of 3:22.89.

Sam Houston's next track and field action is Friday when the Bearkats travel to College Station for the Texas A&M Invitational.
