
First place UCA next hurdle for Bearkats

Two players have dominated the Southland Conference's volleyball offensive player-of-the-week awards this fall, both winning the honor three times.
The pair meet head on Saturday afternoon in Conway, Arkansas, as third place Sam Houston takes on first place Central Arkansas on the Bears' home floor at the Prince Center.
Bearkat senior Deveney Wells-Gibson is one of the three-time player-of-the-week winners. The outside hitter leads the Southland Conference in kills with 333 this season, an average of 4.76 per set.
UCA's Heather Schnars is the other three-time winner. The junior earned her third award last Monday after leading the Bears to wins over McNeese and Nicholls.
Schnars ranks second in the league in kills with 300 for an average of 4.23.
Central Arkansas brings an eight-match winning streak into Saturday's contest after defeating Lamar in three sets Thursday night. During the streak, UCA has won 24 of the 28 sets they've played.
The UCA Bears (13-7, 8-0) and Stephen F. Austin (14-7, 7-0) are the only teams still unbeaten in Southland action. Sam Houston stands in third place (12-7, 5-1) with a road five-set loss at Lamar the only blemish on their league record.
Other top players for the Bearkats include setter Michelle Griffith who leads the Southland in assists (10.85 per set) and front line players Shelby Genung and Breanna Homer. Claire Kilpatrick leads the Bearkats with 298 digs.
Central Arkansas gets additional offensive help from Evie Singleton who ranks eighth in the league with 231 kills this year.
First serve Saturday in the matchup between the Bears and the Bearkats is 2 p.m.
