Wells-Gibson earns 3rd player of week honor

For the third time this season, Sam Houston's Deveney Wells-Gibsson has been voted a Southland Conference women's volleyball offensive player of the week.
Wells-Gibson led Sam Houston State to a pair of road victories last week, posting 22 kills in a four-set victory at Nicholls and 18 in a 3-0 win at McNeese State.
The San Antonio, Texas (Churchill H.S.), native accounted for 45.5 of the Bearkats' 117.0 points over the weekend and made the kill on set point in three of the team's six sets won.
Wells-Gibson has posted double digit kills in 14 matches this season and leads the conference in kills with 281, averaging 4.68 per set.
She ranks among the top five in the nation in attacks per set, while ranking in the top 25 in kills per set, points per set, total attacks and total kills.
Wells-Gibson also earned the weekly honors on Sept. 1 and Sept. 22.
Sam Houston returns home to Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum for the Bearkats' first home game since August 30 when SHSU hosts Incarnate Word Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
