Deveney Wells-Gibson finished with 23 kills to lead Sam Houston State to a straight-sets victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday at Johnson Coliseum. The Bearkats have three home matches left before closing the season on the road.
Wells-Gibson, a senior from San Antonio has had 20 or more kills in three consecutive matches.
After the Bearkats took the first set 25-17, SHSU had to rally to win the second set 25-21. Sam Houston jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the final set and held on for a 25-20 victory to close out the match.
Michelle Griffith assisted on 42 of the Bearkat points.
The Islanders were led by Brianna Brink with nine kills and Ashley Phelps with seven.
Sam Houston returns to action against Northwestern State Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Johnson Coliseum. The Kats then host Southeastern Louisiana Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and New Orleans Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
